Atheist to Christian Debate

Entry 142, on 2023-01-24 at 10:43:24

This debate involved a person who likes to troll an atheist group I follow, with this: "Another one emerged from the Darkness. From Atheist to Christian at Yale - Dr. Paul Lim. We recognize that all people have questions, but very few spaces exist to have open, honest, and respectful discourse around the deepest questions humans have."

Me This proves nothing. You realise that even in the US, atheism is increasing and Christianity decreasing, right?

Opponent Darkness on the rise, yes.

Me Well, understanding reality instead of relying on superstition could easily be seen as casting light, rather than darkness. Ever heard of the Enlightenment?

Supporter At least it's not going into the dark ages, regressing into stupid superstitions and religions.

Opponent Believe in myths and superstitions is not of any diety.

Supporter Of course it is. That's what religions are.

Opponent I agree that most Christians and Muslims believe in myths, but what about Buddhism and Hinduism which can satisfy the best scientific minds?

Supporter Throw those on the scrap heap too. There is no common sense in those either.

Supporter Also throw in witchcraft, wicca, etc...

Opponent Yes what about Yoga... Advaita.

Supporter Yes, haha the horrible darkness of rationality haha.

Opponent Engligtenment. Is not found in the sub atomic world.

Me No, I was talking about the historical event.

Supporter Now you're gonna play aboutism... If there are no demonstrable, provable and reproducible facts then more than likely it's BS. Yoga, martial arts, etc have demonstrable effects despite all the BS in them.

And so that ended without any proper resolution - imagine my surprise! :) But single anecdotes prove nothing. One person became a Christian allegedly proves something, a general trend towards atheism doesn't, according to my opponent.
