I'll Take One!

Entry 764, on 2008-05-07 at 20:26:20 (Rating 1, Computers)

Yesterday Vodafone New Zealand announced they would be selling the Apple iPhone here soon - probably in July. I already own a fairly advanced phone: it was Sony's top model when I bought it, and it offers some functions the iPhone doesn't, but by the time the iPhone is available here the 3G version should be released and it will probably be a good time to buy one.

There have been a few phones produced by other manufacturers which are alleged to challenge the iPhone in their functionality, but on closer analysis they just don't seem to have quite done it. Apple products transcend mere feature lists. They provide a synergistic experience which no one else can seem to match. So in July I will pass my Sony phone and iPod Nano on to someone else in my family and start using an iPhone instead.

I know they will probably be expensive but my current phone cost about $850 and my iPod was $320 so if the iPhone sells for around $800 it will be good value, I think. Then I need to get an HDTV and an Apple TV. And I need to to upgrade my digital camera. Sounds like this is going to be expensive!

Do you know anything about pricing for network traffic or plans for the iPhone when it is available? Its OK to spend a lot on a phone but what about spending money on running it too?

I don't know any extra details at all. One thing is for sure: I'll have to be careful which plan I go with and how I use the phone or it will cost a fortune with the price of services here!
