Lewis Pass

Lewis Pass

There are several passes through the Southern Alps (New Zealand's main mountain range) and this is one: Lewis Pass. Is is 907 meters (about 3000 feet) high and there is a scenic winding road leading to the top from both sides.

You can see there is mainly tussock at this level, and a small lake. There is a bit of snow on the surrounding mountains, even though this is mid summer.
