I got the exposure just right in this photo. The hill is almost black, the street lights in front of the hill are just visible, and the sky maintains its colour because its not too over-exposed.
Notice the fringing around the top of the hill against the bright sky. The Sony camera lens used wasn't really good enough to handle such a contrasty image. Have a look at a similar photo taken with a Canon camera on this site to see what a better quality lens can do (to be fair the Canon camera cost almost twice as much as the Sony).
