Losers

Entry 380, on 2006-08-15 at 20:09:08 (Rating 5, Politics)

Who are the winners and losers in the Israel-Lebanon war, which has finally reached a cease-fire? There is good reason to believe the winners are the "bad guys" (I mean Hezbollah here, because its hard to see who is good and who is bad in this case).

Israel originally thought it would take 5 to 7 days to destroy Hezbollah. Now, after 43 days they are still strong, and fired more rockets into Israel on the last day of the conflict than they did on the first. So what has been achieved, apart from 1000 Lebanese dead (mostly innocent civilians), and 157 Israelis dead (mostly military personnel)?

Israel must have been very surprised to see their infinitely superior military machine made almost useless. The US is also a loser. They are the major power behind Israel and they have totally messed things up again.

The bumbling efforts of the US seem to indicate that it really doesn't want peace in the Middle East. They are either very incompetent or dishonest in their stated aims. Rhetoric from Bush is counter-productive. Using words like "Axis of Evil" and "terrorist" just means nothing now - as soon as I hear these words I switch off and think that its just another load of Bush nonsense.
