Discussion for "spotmetering tips photography menu owen"

Comment by OJB on 2006-07-26 at 22:08:59:

With the Canon EOS350 there is a separate meter button, so its possible to meter on one area of the frame, focus on another, then take the photo. Because the controls are well laid, out its actually quite easy to do, as described here...

I just point the camera at the object to meter on, then hit the meter button with my thumb (its located in just the right place), then re-frame to the object to focus on and hold the shutter down half way. Finally re-frame for the final picture and press the shutter the rest of the way.

Often the element to focus or meter on will be near the center anyway so one or both re-framings will be unnecessary, and if the meter and focus spot are the same the first press and re-frame is unnecessary. Actually, its all a lot easier than it sounds!
