(Up to OJB's Tuatara Page) Hop Head Heaven Limited ReleaseTasted: | 28 Feb 2012 | Name: | Hop Head Heaven Limited Release (658) | Type: | APA | Producer: | Tuatara | Region: | Wellington | Rating: | good- | Web Site: | http://www.tuatarabrewing.co.nz | | The colour was strong brown amber, with a strong foamy cream head, and medium carbonation. The aroma had medium hops and citrus. There was orange citrus fruit and herbs, and a long strong resin hop finish. This beer was quite complex, with intense flavours, and was crisp and fresh. (Commercial description: Barack Obama isn't the only American to be returned by popular demand. Tuatara's famous, original APA is back, accompanied by the seductive aromas and flavours of its all-American hopping regime. American Pale Ale is the wild colonial iteration of the famous English IPAs of the nineteenth century. In a country whose idea of an urbane well-bred Englishman is Piers Morgan, American Pales make the most of a hop breeding culture originally founded by Californian hippies, the kind who got their start in more illegal forms of horticulture. Tuatara reflects that freewheeling adventurousness from the giant fruit on the nose to the fabulous bitterness at the end. Make the most of it while it lasts.) |
Note 1 I am not really a beer expert (just an enthusiastic amateur), so please don't take my recommendations as anything more than a rough guide to these beers. I can take no responsibility if you buy a lot, on my recommendation, and then regret it! Note 2 You may not agree with my evaluation of these beers as a lot of this is quite subjective. I tend to put a lot of emphasis on freshness and intense characteristic flavours and bouquet, so if you disagree you might just have different priorities.
