Stud Book The full Stud Book Regulations will be available behind a member's only domain in due course. However a synopsis has been put onto the website to help the general public who may require some of the relevant information, but not the full 15 pages thereof. 1. Applications for registration in the Studbook and Sports Register will be accepted from members of the CPSNZ and non-members. Fees are higher for non-members. 2. The CPSNZ Studbook regulations align with the Connemara Pony Breeders Society (CPBS) Principles and breed standard. The Stud Book is divided into three classes. These three classes are determined by the results of a visual inspection. Other than the visual inspection results the criteria are the same for all three classes. 3. Studbook Class 3 Includes ponies that have met criteria for entry into the studbook and those who may have been presented for visual breed inspection but not met additional criteria to enter Class 1 or 2. A pony that is not presented for visual breed inspection will remain in Class 3. 3.1. Class 3 contains entire males, mares, and geldings of any age that meet all of the following criteria to qualify for Class 3 3.2. Both parents must be entered in the CPSNZ Studbook or an ICCPS member society Studbook. 3.3. Brand details and/or microchip details are recorded with CPSNZ Registrar. 3.4. DNA profile and parent verification is filed with InfoGeneNZ, Massey University and the CPSNZ Registrar. Exemption: Geldings are exempt if they have not sired a purebred foal and notification of gelding has been submitted to the CPSNZ Registrar on the appropriate CPSNZ foal identity record or gelding notification form with a DNA hair sample that will be retained by the CPSNZ Registrar. If a gelding has sired a purebred foal then the registration fee will be that for an entire male to cover DNA parent verification and HWSD testing. 3.5. Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) testing is a requirement for all foals born after 31 July 2018. This requirement is exempt if both parents have been HWSD tested N/N and these records are on file with the CPSNZ Registrar. Exemption: Geldings are exempt if they have not sired a purebred foal and notification of gelding has been submitted to the CPSNZ Registrar on the appropriate CPSNZ foal identity record or gelding notification form with a DNA hair sample that will be retained by the CPSNZ Registrar. Studbook Eligible Foals The progeny of two Studbook parents entered in the CPSNZ Studbook or an ICCPS Studbook. Please note a foal identity record is not a registration with CPSNZ. 4.1. Studbook eligible foals will have their CPSNZ foal identity record recorded with the society when Page 1 and 2 of the foal identity record form is completed and submitted to the CPSNZ Registrar. 5. Studbook Passport 5.1. Studbook ponies shall receive a Studbook passport issued by the CPSNZ Registrar including the following information: Registered Name (and, where advised, names registered with other organisations such as ESNZ) Unique Life Registration Number (This is a new provision, further details are on a separate page) Name of Breeder, Owners and Lessees Date of birth, colour (birth coat and adult coat), sex, markings, date of issue. Description of pony – horse drawings with markings, or digital photographs of each side, rear and front views. Four generation pedigree. Brands and/or Micro-chip details DNA profile / parent verification report (where applicable). Date passed veterinary inspection (where applicable) Date passed visual breed inspection (where applicable) Date of gelding (where applicable) HWSD test results (where applicable) Results of other Genetic tests (where applicable) Sports Register Ponies are eligible for the Sports Register if the following criteria are met: 1. One (1) parent is registered in the CPSNZ Studbook or an ICCPS member society Studbook; or One (1) grandparent is registered in the CPSNZ Studbook or an ICCPS member society Studbook, and one parent is recorded in the CPSNZ Sports Register. A completed Application for foal identity record is received by the CPSNZ Registrar. Appropriate fee is paid. 2. Sports Register ponies shall receive a Sports Register passport issued by the CPSNZ Registrar including: Registered Name (and, where advised, names registered with other organisations such as ESNZ) Unique Life Registration Number Name of Breeder, Owners and Lessees Date of birth, colour (birth coat and adult coat), sex, markings and date of issue. Description of pony – horse drawings with markings, or digital images of each side, rear and front views. Brands and/or Micro-chip details, if provided. Date of gelding (where applicable) Genetic Tests (where applicable) DNA Genotyping and Parent Verification 1. CPSNZ shall not use or approve the use of any DNA sample for any purpose other than identification or parent verification and Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) without express consent of the recorded owner of the pony. 2. Once a DNA sample is submitted to or through CPSNZ the sample and results become the property of the CPSNZ. Access to DNA results may be available through the CPSNZ upon application to the Committee. Branding The CPSNZ Registrar shall keep a register of brands used by breeders. Branding notification to be completed on foal identity record form, for older ponies branding notification forms are available from the CPSNZ Registrar and on the CPSNZ website. Send completed foal identity record Page 3 or branding notification form and/or Sports Register passport to the CPSNZ Registrar for recording. See Notes to the Regulations for further information. The CPSNZ shamrock brand is available for use on Studbook eligible foals and Studbook ponies, subject to the following conditions: Pony has been DNA parent verified Left (or near) shoulder: CPSNZ Shamrock brand or CPSNZ Shamrock brand and stud brand Right (or off) shoulder: Individual number (allocated by CPSNZ Registrar) above the last number of the pony’s year of birth Appropriate fee paid Microchipping Microchipping to be recorded on foal identity record page 3, for older ponies Notification of microchipping forms are available from the CPSNZ Registrar and on the CPSNZ website. Send completed foal identity record Page 3 or Microchipping notification form and Sports register passport to the CPSNZ Registrar for recording. Reading of micro-chips is at owner’s expense See Notes to the Regulations for further information. CPSNZ Veterinary Inspection The CPSNZ Veterinary inspection is not compulsory for entry into the Studbook Class 3, but is a requirement for Entry into Class 1 & 2. Ponies must be a minimum of two (2) years of age to be eligible for veterinary inspection. The CPSNZ veterinary inspection forms are available from the CPSNZ Registrar or the CPSNZ website. There are separate forms for stallions and mares/geldings. Send completed CPSNZ veterinary inspection form and foal identity record or Passport to the CPSNZ Registrar for recording and updating. There is no time limit between veterinary inspection and visual breed inspection. See Notes to the Regulations for further information. Visual Breed Inspection The CPSNZ visual breed inspection is not compulsory for entry into the Studbook Class 3, but is a requirement for Entry into Studbook Class 1 & 2.
Entire males are eligible for visual breed inspection from three (3) years of age.
Mares and geldings are eligible for visual breed inspection from two (2) years of
age.
The owner, leasee or agent for the pony must contact the CPSNZ Registrar to initiate
the visual breed inspection process; and provide the following:
Visual breed inspection fee Imported Ponies A copy of the pony’s Passport or registration document must be filed with the CPSNZ Registrar. The owner shall arrange for a copy of the pony’s DNA profile to be filed with EPAGSC, Massey University and the CPSNZ Registrar. See Notes to the Regulations for further assistance. The owner of an ‘imported in utero’ foal shall arrange for a copy of the sire’s DNA profile to be filed with InfoGeneNZ, Massey University. Microchips must be read by a vet on arrival in NZ at owner’s expense and must match those on the pony’s passport. Ponies will remain on their country of origin passport. Stud Prefixes and Suffixes All breeders must have a single word Stud Prefix ( the single word requirement is presently under review) approved by the committee of the society in order to register Studbook ponies with the Society. The name of the pony, combined Stud Prefix and pony name, must be less than 30 characters including spaces. Sports Register ponies may be registered without a stud prefix. The committee must approve any stud prefix before use, and reserves the right to reject any prefix, which is the same as, or similar to, any other approved Connemara prefix in NZ or overseas, or is unsuitable on any other grounds. Applications for recording of Stud prefix must be made on the official form, and sent to the Registrar with the current fee. Owners may use their own Prefix as a Suffix in cases where they are not the breeder of the pony, but pay all costs to qualify for entry into Studbook or Sports Register. 5.1.1.1. Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) HWSD testing is a requirement for all foals born after 31 July 2018. Ponies are exempt from this requirement if both parents have been HWSD tested N/N and these records are on file with the CPSNZ Registrar.
